Hastings residents will need to plan their week accordingly due to the extreme heat expected in the next couple of days. Hastings high temperatures are predicted to reach 97 degrees on Wednesday and as high as 98 degrees on Thursday, before cooling off for the weekend.
With the temperatures at such incredible highs, it is uncomfortable for most and even downright dangerous for others. The Chemka Pool in Hastings will do its part to combat the heat with extended hours for Wednesday and Thursday. The village pool opens at 12 p.m. on both days and will close at its normal time of 8 p.m., rather than its regular weekday hours of 3 p.m.-8 p.m.
The Hastings school district does not have any official plans to combat the extreme heat this week. Throughout the week, various classes will be sent to the auditorium or the computer labs to take advantage of the air conditioning. There are general guidelines in place, but no specific plan has been announced. A few of the classrooms in Hastings, such as the art rooms, have air conditioning, but most do not. The main office and the business office also have air conditioning, but the cafeteria does not, so it will be a matter of opening windows and crowding around fans until the temperatures drop.
How do you plan on staying cool this week?
