Hastings Schools Complete Tri-State Review

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Tri-State Consortium recently finished its visit to the Hastings School District and administrators spoke highly of the evaluation process.

“I think the visit went very smoothly,” said Hastings High School principal Louis Adipietro.  “I truly believe that we’re going to get some good results, but we’re also going to get some things that maybe were not thought of so they will make some recommendations for us to really look at.”

The consortium is an outside group that critically reviews a particular discipline in a school district.  The Hastings School District was having its mathematics department for grades K-12 reviewed during the visit.

Data was studied for test scores, advancement of students, interviews with teachers, students and board members and even shadowing of students were all a part of the evaluation.  Adipietro said the district will receive the results of the evaluation with feedback and recommendations in about six weeks.

“It may or may not fit for us,” Adipietro said of the consortium’s potential recommendations.

This document will eventually be released for the public to review next spring.  Hastings superintendent Timothy Connors said the preparation for the review helped the district more than anything.

“By the time the meeting came we had a pretty good idea of what we were doing well, what might be some challenges where we might have to look,” he said.

Adipietro said the district’s transparency during the evaluation was something that went a long way in the review.

“I think it went well,” he said.  “I think it was our honesty and our openness through the committee really shined through.”

The district will review the results and in about a year and a half will meet with the consortium team to see how the review helped and whether any recommendations have been implemented.

“It’s a process,” Adipietro said.  “It lasts about two and a half years.”
