HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY -- Hastings High School student Simone Brandford-Altsher has been recognized as a Semi-Finalist in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Simone is one of 1,600 African-American high school seniors who received the honor for their scores on the 2012 PSAT/National Merit Qualifying Test. More than 160,000 high school juniors requested consideration.
“The next step is for Simone to advance to the Finalist level in the competition, and we look forward to helping her succeed in this great honor,” said Principal Louis Adipietro in a statement.
To be considered for finalist, the student’s high school must submit a detailed scholarship application in which the student’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards are documented. Only 1,300 applicants will advance to be designated finalists.
The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding African- American high school students.
