"This accomplishment is due to the hard work and dedication of student leaders Nora Burkhardt and Maxwell Johnson, both graduates of the Class of 2016, and all the student delegates who have participated in the program," said Courtney Geelan, the club's adviser.
Last year, the team received an award for Outstanding Large Delegation at the prestigious Boston Invitational Model United Nations Conference, or BosMUN, which Geelan said helped propel Irvington High School to the ranking.
"This victory was the result of a whole team effort, with numerous students winning awards in their respective committees," she said.
Team members Shivay Parekh and Gabe Siegel won the Best Delegate award, while Ben Goldberg, Zoë Mermelstein and Zachary Seymour were awarded Outstanding Delegate. Honorable mention went to Nora Burkhardt, Maddy Calick, Cleo Davidowitz, Remy Mermelstein and Jordan Schwed, while Emma DeRose received the Verbal Commendation award.
According to Geelan, this year promises to be another banner year, with the club being led by Head Delegates Emma DeRose and Shivay Parekh, as well as Cleo Davidowitz, Remy Mermelstein, Zoe Mermelstein, Jordan Schwed, Gabe Siegel and Kieran Sullivan.
