Montgomery will play violin and Weinstein will play viola. The two students were selected for the  honor based on the proficiency they demonstrated at the NYSSMA festival last spring.

They represent the top students from school music programs across the state.

Additionally, Gabe Siegel was selected as an alternate on violin and will participate  if another student in the orchestra is unable to attend.

“Clara, Brandon and Gabe are exceedingly talented,” music teacher Alan Goldberg said. “Their skills, combined with passion, commitment and a real love for music and their instruments, have enabled them to be recognized at the highest level by the New York State School Music Association. All of us in the Irvington High School Music Department are very happy, proud and thrilled with their accomplishments.”

This will be Montgomery’s second appearance at the All-State Festival. She performed on violin at the 2015 winter conference, which is also where Weinstein's older brother Ethan performed on trombone.

The 2016 conference will take place at the Rochester Convention Center from Dec. 1-4. The symphony orchestra will perform on Sunday, Dec. 4.
