"Mr. Luft will be a great addition to the Hastings leadership team," said Superintendent Dr. Roy Montesano. "His insight, expertise and long-term commitment to instructional learning will be a true asset to our staff and students."

As director of curriculum and instruction, Luft will oversee student assessments and data; maintain and improve upon a K-12 curriculum that aligns with the Common Core Learning Standards; develop new classes and coursework for students and new professional development opportunities for teachers; and work closely with the district's and schools' leadership teams to meet the district's educational objectives.

Prior to coming to the Hastings school district, Luft spent seven years as a high school physics teacher and instructional technology coordinator for the North Rockland Central School District, before joining Ossining Union Free School District as its director of technology and chief information officer for the past eight years.

"I was passionate about finding lessons within the curriculum to offer students opportunities to be creative, innovative and to solve real-life problems," Luft said. "Moving beyond the Common Core, these opportunities helped students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while collaborating with their peers; all essential traits that will be required of them regardless of their future careers."

"I'm very excited to join the Hastings-on-Hudson school district and help support and enhance the amazing things that are already happening in the classrooms every day. I hope to find opportunities to utilize technology to enhance classroom instruction while supporting students in the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills through authentic learning experiences."

Luft and his wife have two boys, ages 7 and 4. They love biking, hiking and all kinds of sports.
