Local Residents Go To Downtown Dobbs Ferry for School Night Out

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Tuesday night was School Night Out in downtown Dobbs Ferry as local restaurants donated percentages of the night’s proceeds to the school district.  Local residents came out to grab dinner while also helping local schools.

“I am out to support the PTSA and to support our town,” said Dobbs Ferry resident Suzi Brunenavs.  “I think it’s a great idea, it gets people downtown and it gets people to go out together.”

Participating restaurants donated 10 percent of full priced meals to the school district, with much of that money going towards the new science labs at Dobbs Ferry High School.

Downtown restaurants that participated included Sam’s Italian Restaurant, Dobbs Diner, Doubleday’s, Tomatillo, Off Broadway, Cedar Street Grill, Harper’s, Orissa, Sushi Niji and Lemon Tree.  Cedar and Main streets were filled with parents and kids eating out for the fundraiser.

“I think that people eat out anyways and this fundraiser is just a concerted effort,” Brunenavs said.  “I think the idea of doing fundraisers of buying something you buy anyways is very smart.”

Dobbs Ferry PTSA Treasurer Teresa Walsh described Cedar Street as the heart of the village’s “Restaurant Row.”

Even local officials said they wanted to get involved in the fundraising effort Tuesday night after the board of trustees meeting.

“It’s been a real success,” said Dobbs Ferry Mayor Hartley Connett.  “We’re going to try and get out of here as quickly as possible so we can get some dinner.”
