Daniel T. McCann, who holds a doctorate in education, will step into the interim superintendent role on July 1, according to the Tarrytown Union Free School District.

Clouet resigned his post, effective June 30, about halfway through a four-year contract.

“After having been considered for the Commissioner of Education in Connecticut position, which put me in contact with many old friends and colleagues, my wife and I decided we wanted to return to our home state to finish our careers there,” Clouet wrote in a letter to the community.

Clouet added that he believes he is leaving the Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow schools in “good shape,” and appreciated the community’s “thoughtfulness.”

“We thank Dr. Clouet for his service to the district, and wish him well in his future plans,” Mimi Godwin, president of the school board, said.

McCann, an educational consultant with 42 years of experience, most recently served as interim principal at Pleasantville High School. He was superintendent of Hendrick Hudson School District from 2006-2012.

The Tarrytown Board of Education will interview search agencies, and hopes to name a more permanent school superintendent before the beginning of the 2016-17 academic year.
