As part of the program, Mercy College students, faculty and staff will take the College’s Mobile Health Vehicle to the Bathgate section of the Bronx to provide health screenings and education to members of the Sharon Baptist Head Start Program and surrounding Bronx community twice a month. The kick off for the mobile health vehicle program is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25. The ribbon cutting is set for 10:30 a.m. at the Sharon Baptist Head Start/ Partners with Parents at 1925 Bathgate Ave in the Bronx.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Mercy College students to interact with community members by providing essential health services that help facilitate a healthier Bronx," Mercy College’s Physician Assistant Program Director Lorraine Cashin said. "This also provides students with a first-hand understanding and appreciation of the community’s needs.”
HSSBC Director Gwendolyn McEvilley said she was "ecstatic" about the partnership.
“This is an opportunity for our children, families and staff members to get screenings and referrals, which in turn, contributes to our mission of creating a healthier alternative for all,” McEvilley said.
Head Start Programs service low-income children and their families, providing school readiness with a clear and comprehensive focus on cognitive development, social and emotional development as well as health and nutrition.
