Parents Return to Routine on First Day of School

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Most villages in the area, including Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley and Hastings, began their first day of school Tuesday. With the rain falling all day, parents worked to make sure their children were ready to return to classes.

"It was a bit chaotic," said Anna Allen as she waited for the bus to drop her child off.

While waking up in the early morning, eating breakfast and getting on the bus may take some getting used to, some were more eager than others.

"She actually was up and ready," Liz MacKanesi said of her 5-year-old daughter Lola. "I was surprised."

With her umbrella in tow, MacKanesi described the difficulty of getting her daughter into a routine for her first day of kindergarten after so much time off.

"After the summer and not having a schedule it was tough," she said.

While the rain continued to fall into the late afternoon, school went on as scheduled, including the athletic teams. The Dobbs Ferry soccer team was out on the turf practicing in the pouring rain, preparing for the start of its fall season.

Now it's just a matter of time until everyone gets back into their old routine.
