RIVERTOWNS, N.Y. - Dobbs Ferry Schools technology teacher J.P. Kiminski unloaded boxes of project tools and books Thursday in preparation for the opening of 2013-2014 school year as public school students returning to classes Tuesday.

"We'll be working on some exciting projects -- rockets, bridge building -- it's always exciting having the kids come back," Kiminski said. "I'm just trying to get everything opened up and prepared."

The Rivertowns school districts in Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings coordinate their openings, which are early this year. School will open Tuesday and Wednesday after Monday's Labor Day holiday and then close for the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.

"We will get a jump start on the school year with the first two days and then we have the holidays," Dobbs Ferry Schools Information Officer Liz Hausman said. "The teachers are very busy getting things unpacked and ready."

Ardsley Public Schools Special Education (BOCES) teachers Rosemarie Mostacciuolo, Janine Laruccia and Rosemarie Fata were hard at work at the Concord Road Elementary School Thursday preparing for their students return. "Lots of work getting things ready for the kids return," Laruccia said. "The BOCES programs are very important and we are always excited about being here for these children. We are just about ready to go." Dobbs Ferry middle and high school art teacher Serena Buschi has been with the district for 13 opening days. "I am looking for to it," Buschi said. "I just wanted to make sure the kids had a good start and the supplies haven't really been cleaned out and organized for a while. We'll have a two full days to get everyone organized and then we'll start right in after the holiday."
