DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. Raising money for local school districts is a constant concern of parents so new and different fundraisers are always a popular topic of conversation.
Following in the footsteps of the recent School Night Out fundraiser, the Dobbs Ferry PTSA will be running a similar event this weekend. Shop for our Schools will take place Saturday, Nov. 19 and will raise money for the school district. The fundraiser is similar to the last one the PTSA organized with a slight twist.
Except this time we have merchants in town who are participating in the event by giving back a percentage of their sales, said Dobbs Ferry PTSA president Lisa Ferrara.
Recent school fundraisers in the village have gone towards the currently under construction additions to the high school.
Money raised will go to the PTSA and the schools foundation, which will be donated to the district to benefit the renovated science labs, Ferrara said.
Ferrara has encouraged residents of all the local villages to come out and shop locally on Saturday, while also giving back to the school district.
Local shops participating include Say Cheese and Thank You, The Village Soccer Shop, Spice Revolution, Adrianas, Flowers by Carole, Monogram Cottage, Industry and Oasis Day Spa.
We are very excited about this new event as a way to give our merchants an opportunity to give back to the schools, while we as a community support them by shopping locally for the holidays, Ferrara said.
