Corradina Double Secures Dobbs Ferry Softball Win

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Dobbs Ferry catcher Jamie Corradina was hitless in her first three at-bats and not pleased.

“I didn’t know what to expect because I was not as focused as I should have been,” said the sophomore. “In my last at-bat, I knew I had to do it for the team because my other at-bats were not as good as I liked.”

Corradina would redeem herself, in her eyes, with a huge three-run double that would be the difference in an 8-5 win over host Pleasantville in a Section 1 softball game Thursday.

Dobbs Ferry improved to 3-0 behind Andrea Abbatiello, who scattered seven hits and struck out 13. Bronwyn Bingham led the Eagles with three hits and three runs scored. Andrea Abbatiello had two hits and Ali Abbatiello scored twice.

Corradina’s bases-loaded double could not have come at a more opportune time, making the score 7-2, especially after Alicia Marino’s mammoth three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Bingham opened the seventh with a single and she advanced to second on an error. Ali Abbatiello sacrificed her to third and reached safely. Andrea Abbatiello was intentionally walked, loading the bases. Following a foul out, Corradina fell behind 1-2. Corradina immediately became cognizant of Pleasantville pitcher Nicole Gagliardi’s changeup, which she had been throwing when she was ahead in the count.

“I was ready for the off-speed pitch if she was going to throw it,” said Corradina, who worked the count full before lacing a ball through the infield and into the gap in left center. “When it was 3-2, I knew I could do it. The hit was important because we knew Pleasantville is a good team and they had the ability to come back on us.”

Prior to Corradina’s hit, Andrea Abbatiello escaped a bases-loaded two-out situation in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Pleasantville coach Gina Perino was pleased with her team’s resiliency.

“Once we got past the first two innings, I felt we had some great at-bats,” Perino said. “We worked the count on, found a way to get on base and had some hard hits against a pitcher who throws very hard.”

Marino also doubled and finished with three RBI. Freshman Courtney Sheehy and Gagliardi each went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
