Dobbs Ferry Advances in Dual-Meet Championship

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Dobbs Ferry opened its 2011-12 wrestling season without wrestlers in the 99, 106 and 113-pound weight classes, but it did not affect the Eagles.

Dobbs Ferry defeated Ardsley, 50-22, and then Woodlands, 54-30, in out-bracket matches of the Section 1 Division II Dual-Meet Championship, Monday.

The Eagles advance to the round of eight and will face Edgemont Wednesday at Croton. The host Tigers will wrestle Irvington. The two winners will then meet with a berth in the title match on the line.

Putnam Valley is the other site with Nanuet facing Westlake and the host meeting Pleasantville. The two victors will then square off for the other spot in the final, to be held Thursday, at a site and time to be determined.

Defending Section 1 Division II 119-pound champion Jimmy Kyreakedes (132 pounds), Mike Boyle (170), Adam Weiss (195) and Conor Driscoll (220) each had two pins for the Eagles. Kyreakedes had the quickest pin of the day – 18 seconds. Anthony Casamo (160) had a pin and technical fall.

Ardsley’s Drew Longo (126 pounds), the 2011 Section I Division II 112-pound titlist, won by major decision and Russell Kogan (138) and Aidan Conroy (120) pinned their respective opponents.

Woodlands received pins from Joe Pedrigan (138 pounds), Elder Calim (145) and Aron Salguero (152) to take a 24-18 lead over Ardsley.
