Albertus Magnus rebounded from an early deficit yesterday to eke out a 6-5 victory over host Dobbs Ferry in the opening round of the Section 1 Class B baseball tournament.
Magnus, the No. 9 seed from Rockland County, scored two runs in the first inning to take a quick lead before the Eagles rebounded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-2 advantage.
Magnus reliever Casey Kern, who entered the game in the third inning, struck out seven and allowed two runs over five innings to earn the victory for Magnus, which advanced to today's quarterfinal round. The Falcons will meet top-seeded Keio next.
Rocco Cipriano, Matthew Fata and Brian Gardner each drove in a run for Dobbs Ferry, which was seeded eight in the tournament.
Eagles' starter Danny Crowe pitched four innings, allowing four runs and striking out seven in the loss.
