Dobbs Ferry Football Aims To Rebound From 1st Loss

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Dobbs Ferry High school football coach Jim Moran joked Saturday that he hoped the Eagles’ winning streak would never end.

But Tuckahoe snapped Dobbs Ferry’s 14-game streak with a 38-14 rout on Saturday that forced Moran to do something he had not had to do in more than year.

He had to address his players after a loss.

“I think we have a long way to go, but I also think (Tuckahoe is) a really good team,” Moran said. “Definitely the best team we’ve faced all year, and I’ve seen a bunch of teams this year that we haven’t played. They were the best in my eyes.”

The Tigers’ defense forced Dobbs Ferry running back Tim Soave to earn every one of his 101 yards. It took Soave 25 carries to accumulate those yards, and he reached the end zone only once.

“We thought we had the edge on the inside, but obviously we didn’t,” Moran said. “Our game plan was to kind of pound them inside, and they didn’t allow it.”

Tuckahoe held Dobbs Ferry to just 263 total yards of offense, and Moran said after the game that the Tigers’ defense threw the Eagles off their game.

“A lot of what we do is predicated on getting to the edge, and then that opens up a lot things for Timmy,” Moran said. “We had to rely a little bit more on Timmy than we wanted to, and they outplayed us.”

Despite the loss, Dobbs Ferry is still 3-1 this season. The roster might be different from last season’s state championship team, but the Eagles will more than likely still be a factor in the Class C playoffs.
