WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Ali Silfen scored a game-high 25 points, including two big baskets and two clinching free throws in the fourth quarter and overtime Tuesday to lift Blind Brook to a thrilling 69-66 victory over Dobbs Ferry in the Section 1 Class B semifinals at the Westchester County Center.
We just wanted to get good shots at the basket (in overtime) because we didnt want to go home yet, Silfen said of her bucket that gave the Trojans a one-point lead with 11 seconds remaining in the overtime. We had four players out with five fouls and the girls that came in did a great job of getting the ball up court to set up the shot.
The second-seeded Trojans advanced to Saturdays Section 1 Class B championship game where they will meet top-seeded Irvington. Third-seeded Dobbs Ferry was eliminated.
The Eagles, down by nine at halftime and by 10 points with less than three minutes remaining in regulation time, scratched and clawed their way back into the game and tied the score at 59-59 to force overtime.
We had a good lead but relaxed a little to use the clock and they came back on us, said Blind Brook guard Leah Saliba, who scored 19 points. We had to come back two or three times, but everyone played their hearts out. Well be ready to play whoever is next.
Dobbs Ferrys Jeana Corradina made a free throw to take a 66-65 lead with 18 seconds remaining in overtime before Silfen scored a short jump shot to give Blind Brook a 67-66 lead. Silfen then hit two free throws to make it 69-66.
Alyssa Chipelo scored a game-high 26 points for Dobbs Ferry and Kristy Degener added nine points, including four points in overtime to help the Eagles keep pace.
