Dobbs Ferry-Hastings In Football Border Battle

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Neighbors will be at it again Friday night when the defending Class C state champion Dobbs Ferry Eagles host border rival Hastings as the longtime Rivertowns football rivalry kicks off at 7 p.m. at Gould Park.

The Eagles (3-1) come off a 38-14 loss to Tuckahoe that snapped a two-year streak of 14 straight wins, while the visiting Yellow Jackets (1-3) were topped by unbeaten Woodlands, 38-19, in a good effort.

Dobbs Ferry and Hastings need no more motivation than bragging rights for the stretch of Route 9 that runs between the two villages, but the Eagles need a win to get back on track and the Jackets would love to get a second win against their local rival.

Hastings look like an improving team with quarterback Rob Hevia leading a good running and passing game that features running back Devin Nunez and receiver Alex Brizer. Mike Inciofane, Jesse Greenwald and Chris Minozzi lead the defense.

Junior running back Tim Soave is tough to tackle and will be handling the ball for the Eagles, who are led at quarterback by Grant Giglio. Brian Gardner is the Eagles' leader on defense and also runs the ball well.

This should be a comeback win for Dobbs, but Hastings is on the rise under first-year coach Chris Wagner. Dobbs Ferry's coach Jim Moran is a Hastings native, adding more flavor to the border battle that will draw a big crowd under the lights.
