Dobbs Ferry Softball Off to Strong Start at 8-2

WEST NYACK, N.Y. — Following the Nyack Softball Tournament championship game Saturday, Dobbs Ferry coach Neil Abbatiello met with his young team in left field for a few minutes.?Once the post-game meeting concluded, the Eagles came jogging toward the bench upbeat, despite a 9-6 loss to Washingtonville in the final at Germonds Park.?

The Eagles, who have only one senior, are 8-2 through their first 10 games.?

“We are a still a work in progress,” Abbatiello said. “We have come a long way in the first half of the year and become a very good softball team. We, as a coaching staff, are very proud of them.”?

Dobbs Ferry opened with an 11-1 win over Nyack as Andrea Abbatiello tossed a four-hitter and struck out six. Nyack scored in the seventh inning. Abbatiello also had three hits, including two doubles.

Alex Cialini led the offensive eruption with four hits and five RBI. Bronwyn Bingham had three doubles and Ali Abbatiello had three hits and two RBI.?

The Eagles had leads of 5-3 and 6-5 against Washingtonville, only to have the Wizards produce key two-out hits in the fifth and sixth innings, resulting in five runs.?

“They are a tough group of girls who kept coming at us,” Abbatiello said of Washingtonville. “You grow as a team out of a loss. We will put in what we need to work on in practice Monday and be that much better in our next game.”?

Andrea Abbatiello hit a solo home run and also had a run-scoring single against Washingtonville. Bingham tripled twice and drove in a run, and Amy Steifel had three hits, a run scored and an RBI.
