Doubleheader Sweep Gives Mercy Baseball First Wins

The Mercy College baseball team broke through Sunday and registered its first wins of the season with a doubleheader sweep of Franklin Pierce University in Fort Pierce, Fla.

The Mavericks won the first game, 5-3, and finished the sweep with a 9-4 victory.

Bryan Greig allowed two earned runs and six hits in seven innings to get the win in game one. Walter Kowalczyk, a Briarcliff graduate, earned the save allowing one run in two innings.

In the second game, Mercy erupted for nine runs in the second inning. Sal Palumbo and Johnny Lovera each stroked two-run singles in the inning. Winning pitcher Tyler Savin yielded four runs and four hits in five innings. Chuck DeHart recorded the save with four spotless innings in relief.
