Football Club Officially Elects a New President

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – While it’s been in the works for a while, Alan Straub has been officially elected as the new president of the Dobbs Ferry Youth Football Club.  Straub has an intimate knowledge of the football club as he is a product of the program.

“It’s seamless,” he said.  “I was born and raised here and played at the high school.”

Straub takes over for Paddy Steinschneider, who said he’s more than happy to hand over the reins after serving as president for more than a decade. “Three years ago, I suggested the others get involved and be willing to take on the responsibilities of the officers of the club,” he said.  “It took a couple of years, but a great group has come forward, expanding the board.”

Straub was elected as the new president, Michael Valentine was elected vice president and Chris Scaperrotta was re-elected as treasurer of the club.

Known for churning out top teams in the state, Straub experienced that success first hand having gone on an impressive streak in high school.

“[We won] 42 in a row,” he said.  “So it was a fun time.”

Straub said one of his biggest goals as president is to make football even more visible in the community to keep people talking about it.

“Keep football on the mind all year long,” he said.  “The past couple years people weren’t talking about football, we’re battling against fall baseball and fall lacrosse, soccer, so many other sports that go year round, the numbers started to go down.”

After an extensive search for the next group to take over leadership of the club, Steinschneider said Straub and the others are a tailor fit for the program.

“They are committed to continuing to improve the program and I have complete confidence in both their conviction and ability to make this happen,” he said.
