Hastings Alum DaDabo a Hall of Famer

John DaDabo stood out in a crowd even as a teenager, playing football at Hastings High School and later at Westchester Community College before fulfilling a childhood dream of playing for a short time as a pro for the New York Jets in 1973. After surviving a heart transplant several years ago and a battling a series of health issues that nearly killed him, DaDabo is recovering and thriving in Glendale, Arizona as the owner of a security business. He enjoys reminiscing about his glory days playing football at Hastings and Valhalla’s WCC.

“My memories of high school were the best times in my life,” said DaDabo, who graduated in 1969. “ Playing with Angelo Questo and Otis Thornton, Jack McKernon and Steve Cuppek were very good memories. We were very good thanks to Coach (Dick) Bub. I remember his quote, `Three yards and a cloud of dust’. I used that phrase in my life. It helped me get through a lot of obstacles.”

DaDabo, who’ll turn 60 in August, was inducted into the New York State College Football Hall of Fame in 2010 along with his teammates from the 1971 Westchester Community College team that went 8-0 en route to the National Collegiate Club football championship.

“The whole 1971 team was recently inducted into The New York State College Football Hall of Fame this past year,” DaDabo said. “It’s a great honor. We were 30 guys from different backgrounds and made one football player. It was a life time experience. We couldn`t and wouldn`t be denied. “
