Hastings Boosters to Offer Conditioning Classes

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Bill Parisi, founder of Parisi Speed School, spoke to Hastings High School athletes, parents and coaches Thursday night as part of a seminar on the importance of having a conditioning and fitness program, especially in the offseason.

“It’s probably one of the most important things an athlete can do,” he said.  “When you do these things over and over again in a controlled, specialized program it’s not going to only enhance their efficiency, they’re going to get conditioning. It’s a byproduct.”

The Hastings Yellow Jacket Booster Club hosted the information session for high school athletes looking to get back in shape before the spring season kicks off.

Booster club president Bob Wilt said the program will start the week of Feb. 27 and run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after school for two weeks.  The seminar focused on training, injury prevention, nutrition, fitness and education.

“Hopefully this will grow to be a year-round thing in between sports so these kids aren’t going to start cold,” Wilt said.  “They’re going to have two weeks of warming up and getting into shape to prevent injuries and stuff.  Hopefully we can have that before every season.”

Anthony Tarricone, one of the owners of Equalize Fitness, is helping run the program and said it will help student-athletes transition into the new season.

“It’s a program to prevent injury to get them all in shape,” he said.  “They go from the window of having nothing then all of a sudden expecting to get out on a field.”

But the six session program, which the booster club has covered the cost of for all participants, isn’t strictly for students who are playing on school teams.

“You don’t have to play basketball, play football,” Wilt said.  “Come out, learn to run right, learn to train, learn to do conditioning and nutrition.  It’s something they’ll be able to take with them the rest of their lives.”
