Hastings Bounced by Mamaroneck Comeback

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Hastings Yellow Jackets led big-school Mamaroneck early Monday before the visiting Tigers rebounded and rolled to a 16-5 victory at Fazio Field.

Hastings (2-4) led 2-0 after two innings as starting pitcher Dylan Healy slowed the Tigers’ (4-2) offense over the first two innings.

Matt Adipietro had a run-scoring triple and scored twice and Healy and Nikko Selemon each drove in a run for the Yellow Jackets.

Matt Mezansky and Matt Marino each had big run-scoring hits in the third and fourth innings as the Tigers scored seven quick runs to open a 7-2 lead.

“Their pitcher (Dylan Healy) was throwing some off-speed stuff, so we just had to put the ball in play and that got us going,” Mezansky said. “We hit a lot of line drives after that. We made a few mistakes that we can’t make if we’re in big games.”

Despite giving Hastings an early lead, Tigers starting pitcher Will Hofmann settled down until his teammates could get their offense in gear. The junior righty allowed four earned runs on seven hits over five innings to earn his first win of the season.

“I was looking down a little and not throwing to the target in the first couple of innings,” Hofmann said. “Once I got focused it was better and we hit the ball well. I think being down in Florida helps because you can get your arm ready in warmer climate.”
