Hastings Football Drops Homecoming To Woodlands

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Hastings High football team rode an early Homecoming momentum to take an early lead Saturday, but Woodlands shook it off and rolled to a 38-19 victory at Reynolds Field.

The host Yellow Jackets fell to 1-3 as the season hits the midway mark. They will try to get back on the winning track at Rye Neck at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 1.

Hastings took the opening kickoff and moved 86 yards down the field on an eight-minute drive, capping it with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Rob Hevia to Alex Brizer and a Sam Osband extra point for a 7-0 lead. Woodlands then scored quickly to cut the lead to 7-6, then scored the next 25 points to take a 32-7 lead.

Deven Nunez had an interception that he returned to the Woodlands 14-yard line toward the end of the first half, but the Jackets could not score. Chris Minozzi, Mike Iaciofano, Jesse Greenwald, Hevia and Brizer played well for the Hastings defense.

Woodlands quarterback Justin Riccio completed 11 of 15 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown, and wide receiver Dylan Eddy grabbed three passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. Tyrone Barber rushed 10 times for 79 yards and added a touchdown for the Falcons.

The visiting Falcons remained unbeaten at 4-0 and took over as the favorite in Class C football with previously unbeaten defending Class C state champion Dobbs Ferry losing to Tuckahoe, 38-14.
