Hastings Hosts Albertus Magnus For Homecoming

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Encouraged by a strong showing in last week’s loss at Tuckahoe and inspired by Homecoming Day weekend, the Hastings Yellow Jackets will host Albertus Magnus Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Reynolds Field.

“We played well enough to win the game (at Tuckahoe),” said senior quarterback Joe Tarricone, who is out for the season after injuring a knee three weeks ago. “Rob (sophomore quarterback Rob Hevia) is playing hard and making plays. It’s tough missing the games. We want to play well to finish the season.”

Hastings (2-4) would like to enjoy a homecoming win against the visitors from Rockland County and with the success the Jackets had moving the ball against Tuckahoe the team seems to be building as the season comes to a close.

The Jackets are led by Hevia, who is mastering the multiple offenses that uses a mix of counter runs and passes to keep opponents off balance. The sophomore signal caller threw two touchdowns passes to his prime receiver Matt Adipietro against Tuckahoe. Running back Brandon Abrahante is as good a back as there is in Class C. He gained 153 yards on 25 carries in the 37-22 loss to Tuckahoe.

Albertus Magnus (2-4) has also struggled, losing it last two games to Bronxville and Tappan Zee. Magnus does not pass the ball at all, depending on a rushing game that has compiled 290 yards a game, led by Jeremy Sosa, who has gained 650 yards and scored five touchdowns.

The Jackets defense will be the key to this game. If Hastings can stop the Magnus running game, the offense can score enough to earn a homecoming win.
