Hastings Little League Marches into 2012 Season

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Hundreds of young baseball and softball players joined their coaches and family members Saturday morning to officially begin the Hastings-on-Hudson Little League season, marching from the American Legion Hall on Farragut Parkway to the traditional opening day at Uniontown Little League Field.

“It always reminds me of my playing days with James Harmon (Hastings youth recreation leader) and Hastings baseball,” said Scott Cartwright, coach of the Rainwater Grill minor league baseball squad. “We try to give the kids the basic skills and hope they enjoy playing the game the way we did. This parade is a great thing for everyone.”

Ann Marie Rey, Melissa McKiernan and Elizabeth Galetta coach the girls’ Mustangs softball team.

“We have a lot of fun working with girls,” McKeirnan said. “They learn a lot about the game. We have some girls who have played before and are pretty good. We also have beginners who have to learn what hand to put the glove on. They pick it pretty quickly.”
