Sean Leyden, who earlier won his school's geography contest, will be competing in the state competition on April 1.

According to the National Geographic Bee, millions of students from across the country take part in the Bee annually. Only the top 100 in each state and Washington, D.C., make it to the state championships. From there, the top student in each state moves on to the national competition, which will be held in the nation's capital from May 22-25.

New York's state competition is to take place in the Clark Auditorium at the New York State Museum in Albany.
