Irvington Grad Lai Joins NCAA Basketball March Madness

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y . -- Several Westchester college basketball players and one head coach coach will be part of the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Championships that begin across the country this week.

Former White Plains High School star Sean Kilpatrick and Cincinnati (27-6) drew the No. 5 seed and will play No. 12 Harvard in a first-round game on Thursday, March 20 in Spokane, Wash. Kilpatrick is the No. 2 all-time scorer in Cincinnati history , behind only the legendary Oscar Robertson.

Isaiah Cousins, a 2012 graduate of Mount Vernon High School who won three Section 1 titles with the Knights, is a sophomore guard and integral part of the University of Oklahoma men's team, a No. 5 seed, will meet North Dakota State (No. 12) Thursday in the West Regional in Spokane Wash.

Reece Williams, a Woodlands High graduate , is a reserve guard for the University of Albany Great Dames. Williams, a White Plains native, is a sophomore who has been to the NCAA tournament his first two years.

The Albany Great Danes will play Mount St. Mary's Tuesday, March 18 in Dayton, Oh. in an outbracket play-in game for the No. 16 seed. The winner earns the right to play No. 1 Florida in the opening round of the South Regional bracket Thursday, March 20 in Orlando, Fla.

Manhattan College men's basketball coach Steve Massiello, a Harvey School (Katonah) graduate and a White Plains resident native, will lead his No. 13 Jaspers into the Midwest Regional against last year's NCAA champion Louisville the bracket's No. 4 seed in St. Louis on Thursday, March 20. Masiello played under Louisville coach Rick Pitino when Pitino was head coach at Kentucky. Massiello was also on Pitino's staff at Louisville.

In Division I women's basketball, Saniya Chong, an Ossining High School graduate who led the Pride to four Section 1 Class AA area championships and a state title in 2013, is a key player and freshman guard for the University of Connecticut women's team.

Mount Vernon's Taylor Palmer, a senior for the West Virginia women's basketball team, has averaged just under 10 points a game. The Mountaineers will know their first-round opponent when the women's brackets are announced Monday, March 17.

Brittni Lai, a freshman at Marist College, was a star guard for the three-time state champion Irvington High School girls basketball team. UConn and Marist will learn their NCAA first-round opponent when the women's selections are unveiled Monday, March 17 at 7 p.m.
