MAMARONECK, N.Y. Freshman Dana King homered and tripled to back the four-hit pitcher of Jessica Calvini on Wednesday as Rye Neck defeated Dobbs Ferry, 5-0, in a Section 1 softball game.
The teams, annual contenders for the Section 1 Class B championship, could very well meet again during sectionals.
Calvini, who helped herself with a run-scoring double in the first inning, struck out 10. She also had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.
It is the second consecutive shutout for Calvini, who opened the week with a one-hitter over Hastings.
King, who scored three runs, hit her first varsity home run in the third inning, a fence-clearing smash.
Allison Abbatiello tripled and doubled for Dobbs Ferry. Alex Cialini only allowed six hits and struck out seven.
