'Tebowmania' to NY Draws Mixed Reviews From Fans

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Tebowmania’s move to the Big Apple is drawing mixed reviews from Greenburgh’s loyal Gang Green followers.

On Wednesday, just hours after reports began to surface that the New York Jets had traded for the polarizing quarterback, Tim Tebow, fans were already sounding off on the deal.

“I don’t think Tim Tebow is as bad as people make him out to be,” said Tom Avenaut while browsing Jets jerseys in the Tarrytown Road Modell’s. “He has his flaws but he skyrocketed that (Denver Broncos) team.”

But not all Jets fans were Tebowing in excitement when they heard the news.

“I don’t like it,” Erik Treutler, of Sleepy Hollow, said. “He’s just not that good.”

While Tebow’s role with the Jets remains unclear, Mahopac resident John Ravoli said the quarterback could be a good addition in the Wildcat role, filling the place of the departed Brad Smith.

Tebow wins games, Ravoli added, and will be a good presence in the locker room.

But it’s that same presence, and the hype that comes with it, that could add more pressure to starting quarterback Mark Sanchez who has often been the brunt of Jets fans’ frustration, Avenaut said.

“The fans may make him the starter if Sanchez struggles,” Avenaut said.

What all fans do seem to agree on is that the green and white Tebow jersey will be a big hit in New York.

“He will certainly sell jerseys,” Ravoli said. “I bet you will see plenty more Tebow jerseys in the stadium than Sanchez jerseys.”
