Tuckahoe, Woodlands Tangle In Football Finale

GREENBURGH, N.Y. - Woodlands and Tuckahoe, the top-ranked teams in Section 1 Class C and Class D high school football, respectively, will face off in the regular-season finale for both teams at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Woodlands.

The Falcons (6-0), unbeaten in six straight games, including last week's 39-6 victory against defending state champion Dobbs Ferry, will be tested by the Tigers, who are 4-1-1 after being upset by Bronxville, 7-0, last Saturday in their first loss.

Woodlands solidified its top seed in Class C with its win at Dobbs Ferry and most likely will be the No. 1 seed when the playoffs begin next week. Tuckahoe also is a No. 1 in Class D and will remain in that spot despite the outcome of the game.

The Falcons are led by quarterback Justin Riccio and a full backfield of runners who are among the quickest in the area. Tyrone Barber and Ray Jackson have speed to burn and combined for more than 250 yards and three scores against Dobbs Ferry. The Woodlands defense has improved and managed to hold a potent Dobbs defense to one score.

Tuckahoe's season has stalled a bit. After opening with four convincing wins, the Tigers have tied with Haldane and lost to Bronxville. Tuckahoe's offense also is packed with talent, including running backs Nick Reisman and Shyheim Nixon and quarterback Mike Castracucco. The Tigers defense has allowed just 11 points per game, but Woodlands averages a little less than 40 points per game and will be a tough offense to handle.

This game will be a battle of speed and ball control. Expect the Falcons to use their size on defense and speed on offense to try and control the play. The Tigers must play mistake-free football to have a chance.

Either way, both teams are headed for the playoffs.
