Woodlands Football Trips Dobbs, Remains Unbeaten

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. — The Woodlands Falcons won their sixth straight game and avenged last year's playoff loss to Dobbs Ferry Saturday with a decisive 39-6 victory over the defending Class C champion Eagles at Gould Field.

Woodlands ran its record to 6-0 and the remained the top seed in the Class C playoff picture with one game left in the regular season. The visitors used a potent running game led by halfbacks Ray Jackson and Tyrone Barber, who combined for 256 of Woodlands' 370 total yards.

The Eagles (4-2), who defeated the Falcons in last year's playoffs in a snow storm and went on to win the state title, have one game remaining before a possible rematch with Woodlands in the upcoming playoffs.

Jackson showed his speed early by taking the first two handoffs of the game for 19 and 45 yards. The second dash went for a touchdown to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead. He scored twice more, including a 60-yard dash that gave Woodlands a 20-6 lead.

Woodlands won the game despite several fumbled snaps to quarterback Justin Riccio, the first of which was recovered in the Falcons' end zone by Dobbs Ferry lineman Brian Gardner to cut an early led to 7-6.

Dobbs Ferry's Tim Soave carried much of the load at running back, gaining 112 yards but failing to score for the first time in six games. Soave and Gardner played well on defense for the Eagles but were overmatched by the Falcons' speed.

Andre Tilford scored the game's final touchdown. The Falcons defense was led by defensive back Jonathan Stewart, Ron Richards, linebacker DeShaun Downey and lineman Houston Porter.

Woodlands ends the regular season Saturday, hosting Tuckahoe in a matchup of the top teams in Class C and D at 1:30 p.m.

The Eagles will visit Bronxville next Saturday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
