Yozzo-Scaperrotta Named to Golden Dozen

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Dobbs Ferry High School’s John Yozzo-Scaperrotta, a member of the Eagles’ recently-crowned Class C state championship team, has been named as a Golden Dozen scholar/athlete.

The Golden Dozen are selected by the Westchester Chapter of the National Football Foundation every year and include the top scholar-athletes on the football field from the recently completed fall season. The players will be honored at the National Football Foundation Awards Banquet at Westchester Country Club in Harrison on Jan. 26.

Yozzo-Scaperrotta, a running back and defensive end, helped lead the Eagles to an 11-1 record and Section 1 and Regional titles before taking the state title with a stunning 39-0 victory over Southwestern High School in the Syracuse University Carrier Dome on Nov. 27. He had 48 tackles, eight sacks and two interceptions rushed for 740 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Yozzo-Scaperrotta is a three-sport athlete, currently playing basketball this winter and lacrosse in the spring. The senior is committed to attend Brown University where he will play Division I lacrosse at next fall.

A total of 38 students were honored from Westchester and Putnam counties, including the “Golden Dozen,” and the 26 honorable mention honorees.
