Our thanks to Mr. Lipton for his hard work and evolution as the board's leader. But even a popular budget was unable to garner the 60% needed for a tax override and with fiscal conservatives capturing the seats on the board, it is clear that the voters have spoken

Would there be a controversy without the misinformation campaign emanating from the Waccabuc Landowners Counci?

Too bad Mr. Parsons chose not to follow the lead of Mr. Duffy, who put a revenue-generating cell tower on town property for Cross River. Even Mr. Brancati wanted the Goldens Bridge cell tower to be on the Brownell Preserve, which might have provided some revenue to maintain these preserves since they no longer pray property taxes.

All last year Mr. Parsons alleged that his predecessor Charlie Duffy had underestimated the Town's needs when setting up the 2012 budget. It was a major justification for Mr. Parsons' request for a 17% tax increase
Now, suddenly, just as the book is closing on that 2012 budget, it appears that Mr. Duffy's estimates are quite accurate. Thank you Mr. Duffy. View Comment
The State Comptroller, Standard & Poor's and the recent town audit all praised Mr. Parson's predecessor for exercising the discipline needed to end the structural deficit and put Lewisboro back on the long path to recovery. Mr Parsons spoke against those cuts back then, and seems intent on a return to the practice of spending more than taxpayers can afford.

Voters can review Mr. Morris's writing and sample his "humor" and "friendly personality." as Ms. Silenock puts it, here:

It says something when a fiscally conservative Republican is endorsed by The Business Council, New Yorkers for Growth, and all area PBAs, while at the same time being endorsed by the Sierra Club and the Teamsters. and gaining praise from the Governor. This is a lesson in bipartisanship that should be taught in Washington, DC. View Comment

You can't blame Officer Ritchie for making his case as head of the union, but not all of the part-time officers are as dedicated as he is and there is more that neither he nor the Chief can or should debate in public.

Liberty is about balancing rights. Fireworks celebrations are an important symbol, fun for children and an import source of revenue for many small towns. Many dog owners are concerned about the effect of fireworks on their dogs (though unless you bring your dog to the fireworks ceremony it must be significantly less than the effect of thunder). Many parents of children are apprehensive whenever dog owners bring their dogs to public events where children are playing.
The lack of tolerance is always dangerous, witness the small upstate town intimidated by the federal government into canceling their annual fireworks celebration this year. You can read more about it at:

Last year the chamber unveiled a spiffy new website donated by a major public relations firm. With the continued refusal to hold an annual meeting of the members and elect a Board of Directors in accordance with the legal requirements of nonprofit law, six board members have left the board including two attorneys and two webmasters.
It is a shame that in the midst of the current financial crisis the remaining members of the chamber board cannot see fit to hold a properly noticed annual meeting of the members and elect a Board of Directors in an open and fair manner.
The new website is rudimentary at best. Calling it an improvement is like trying to put lipstick on a pig. View Comment
The town clerk the "face" of local government and the keeper of the records. What in Mr. Morris's past several years as the mean-spirited, sexist and disingenuous, highly partisan columnist for the Ledger qualifies him for this position:

Understandably, these candidates don't want to sound alarmist, but their discussions feel like scenes from "The Truman Show." But there is a reality out beyond the fake horizon. Read more about the issues the candidates don't want to address here:

Kudos to the DL for an informative story that does not sensationalize and stands apart from the competition. Kudos as well to Mr. Parsons for being gracious; though a cynic might note that he omits how the report draws a distinction between Mr. Brancati, and both his predecessor and Mr. Duffy, for presenting two deficit budgets with large tax increases--perhaps because Mr. Parson's running mate, Mr. Welsh, voted for those ill-fated budgets, both in 2008 and again in 2009 despite the protests of even his fellow Democrat Bruce Pavalow.
Mr. Parsons might also have mentioned how the report documents Mr. Duffy's success in restoring fiscal stability by ending the high taxes and deficit spending and by putting a stop to the "revolving door" in the finance office. Perhaps that's too much to expect, even in a small town.

We agree with Mr. Duffy. In a March 11 post, we discussed Dr. Simon's unwillingness to hold open and fair elections and the harm it is causing to the organization, its new members and Mr. Parsons, whose campaign Dr. Simon managed.
