Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect For Rivertowns

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch and Flash Flood Watch have been issued for Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties on Thursday.

The Severe Storm Watch, meaning conditions are favorable for thunderstorms to develop in and around the area, went into effect just before 2 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. Thursday.

The Flash Flood Watch went into effect at 2 p.m. Thursday and lasts until 6 a.m. Friday.

Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon, and increase in coverage and intensity into this evening, the National Weather Service said.

Additional rounds of heavy rain producing thunderstorms are again possible Thursday night.

Three inches or more of rain will be possible where the heaviest and most persistent storms occur, leading to flash flooding.

Showers and thunderstorms are also possible during the day Friday. It will be cooler with a high in the lower-70s. Showers and storms become likely Friday evening, mainly before midnight.

The stormy weather will clear for the weekend. Saturday will be partly sunny and warm, with a high around 85. Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high in the low- to mid-80s.
