Department of Public Works crews in Hastings-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry and Ardsley began plowing local streets and spreading salt in the early morning hours as the snow began falling at 1 a.m. in many areas.
Three to 4 inches of snow accumulated before changing to sleet and then freezing rain just before 8 a.m.
Driving conditions are hazardous throughout the county and most school districts announced closures on Tuesday in advance of the arrival of the storm. New York City Public Schools remain open.
Metro-North announced it is running on a reduced schedule.
