Tucked less than a block from the Dobbs Ferry Library and on the route up from the Dobbs Ferry train station at 66 Main St., Lidia's Bakeshop & Cafe will celebrate a grand reopening Saturday with tasting and some special activities through the day.
"I have always had a love of baking -- from my earliest memories there has always been food," said Racanelli, who lives in Irvngton. "I remember being little and leaving my apartment in this very building and going next door to my aunt's. I would climb on top of the stool to watch her cook. I also remember my aunt's cooking and baking for Sunday and holidays."
Racanelli's memories have grown into a comfortable space where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a cookie, pastry or other delight, play a game, log on to Wi-Fi or just spend a few quiet moments alone or with friends. And the oven is producing a variety of muffins, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, cakes (custom as well), pies, bars and breads and even gluten free products.
"The previous tenants in the bakery had always brought the items from other locations," Racanelli said. "We I decided to open I knew that I would definitely gave to add a proper kitchen so we could cook on the premises. We gave a staff of five part and fill timers and our servers also do some baking.
Lidia's also caters to customers on the go with packaged lunches that include sandwiches, soups, and salads. The bakery also offers candies, gourmet custom ice cream flavors and an array of chocolates, all filled with Racanelli's love.
"The love has always been there or it may have been all the happy and silly memories of my family," Racanelli said. "When the opportunity came to open (bakery) occurred it just fit."
