"Desperate Pursuit in Venice", a contemporary adult romance thriller, has made it through to the finalist stages of what is being called the X-Factor of author competitions.
"It is the biggest international author/book/film competition ever launched on the worldwide web with over 250,000 individual tweets promoting the international authors having gone out," Summars said. "The excerpt from my novel has so far gotten over 5,000 tweets in addition to other social media shares."
A former corporate finance professional turned self-published author, Summars is originally from Berlin, Germany and has been a Rivertowns resident since 1992.
In November 2013, MARSocial launched an Author-of- the-Year competition, which allows authors involved to promote each other by tweeting and re-tweeting their own as well as the other authors’ book excerpts.
Summars' recent foray into publishing is the fruit of a lifetime love of writing that began as a child.
"I grew up in Germany -- at that time it was customary for kids in elementary school to keep diaries with sayings/poems written by your fellow students and friends," Summars said. "I always enjoyed writing poems and sayings in my friends’ diaries. You really had to think about it because it was supposed to fit to the respective student’s personality."
The new author developed her career as corporate finance professional and in order to obtain approvals for transactions was required to prepare well-written reports and summaries, which helped improve her skills.
"To satisfy my creative side, I would make up storybooks for colleagues about their professional life at our workplace," she said. "This would include anecdotes and stories and put it together with photos. My colleagues liked it so much that whenever someone left they asked me if I could do a book for the departing colleague so they could hand it out as a farewell gift."
Summars began writing a family memoir five years ago, but pushed it aside decided to try her hand at fiction.
"I used some life experiences as a basis then I expanded the story and added captivating characters and exciting scenes," She said. "I was amazed how easy it was. The ideas just kept on flowing so I couldn’t stop."
In February 2013, Summars decided to completely focus on her writing and gave up her financial career, which she said was not that enjoyable after the 2008 financial crisis.
The final stages of the competition -- authors’ chapter excerpts -- are being tweeted to millions of followers around the world in hopes to claim the coveted Ephraim Prize on Feb. 1, 2014.
The winner could have the chance to have his/her work turned into a film adaptation by Keeran Vaani Creations.
