Spring Break Comes Just in Time for Students

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – With the whole week off from school, many local residents are looking to take advantage of the spring break with their kids.

“It’s perfect,” said Ardsley resident John Speckman.  “I’m looking forward to just enjoying some time off with the kids.”

Dobbs Ferry resident Jim O’Connor said the break comes at a perfect time in the year because it’s just in time for spring sports.

“Just spend time with the kids, softball and lacrosse are starting, a little t-ball too so were practicing all the sports at the same time this week,” he said.   “We got to take advantage of it.”

It’s also National Library Week this week so there will be plenty of events at the local libraries to help keep the kids busy.

The Dobbs Ferry Public Library will hold a screening of “The Muppets” on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m., story time on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and toddler time on Thursday at 11 a.m.  The library will also host the Arts Alive Jazz Concert with Tony Jefferson at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

On Monday the Ardsley Public Library will be having a screening of “Hop” with snacks provided at 1 p.m.  Robert the Guitar Guy will be there on Tuesday at 11 a.m. and there will be story time at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday.  The library will host gaming on Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m., and on Friday it will hold bouncing babies at 10:30 a.m. and Balloon Bonanza at 2:30 p.m.

Having the whole week off will leave plenty of free time on students’ hands, but O’Connor said the kids have earned a vacation.

“It’s good, they need a break, they deserve it,” he said.
