New Charges For Yonkers Cardiologist In Prescription Painkiller Probe

YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers cardiologist that stands accused of illegally distributing pain killers is facing new charges of committing wire fraud by erroneously billing healthcare providers, according to LoHud.com.

Rohan Wijetilaka was charged with illegally distributing pain killers as well as wire fraud against health care agencies.

Dr. Rohan Wijetilaka, 64, pleaded not guilty to charges that he billed medicare and other agencies for allegedly billing out for procedures that were unnecessary or for fake office visits, LoHud.com reported.

Wijetilaka had his medical license revoked in 2012 after being cited for dozens of counts of professional misconduct. He was also fined $50,000, LoHud.com reported.
