GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Nearly 7,000 residents in Greenburgh were without power by 9 p.m. Monday evening as Hurricane Sandy continued to blow through Westchester County.
An estimated 6,954 out of 18,736 customers in Greenburgh lost power Monday night, according to Con Edison reports. No injuries were sustained after a tree fell on an apartment complex on Wyndover Woods Lane, Greenburgh police said. Tenants are being evacuated by police and transported to the Anthony F. Veteran Park emergency shelter.
Police are also reporting several transformer fires on Sprain Valley Road, Old Tarrytown Road near Manhattan Avenue, and Walbrooke Circle.
Downed power lines have also caused traffic signal outages on South Central Park Avenue, police said.
Con Edison has been notified of all power outages. Greenburgh police said to report any additional outages to 1-800-75-CON-ED.
Greenburgh police are also reporting the following road closures due to downed trees:
- Old Kensico Road, from Old Tarrytown Road to Woodland Hills.
- Fort Hill Road, from Paradise Drive to Central Park Avenue.
- Pat Capone Road, from Pinewood to Greenburgh Central 7 school campus.
- Seely Place, from Henry Street to Wallick Circle
- Clayton Road, from Sheridan Road to Underhill Avenue
- Edgewood Road, from Cross Way to Joyce Road

Poe Street, from Stevenson Avenue to Lytton Road
- Lawton Street, from Columbia Avenue to Holland Place

Knollwood Extension at Hevelyne Road
- Jackson Avenue at Old Jackson Avenue
- Caterson Terrace at Holland Place
- Rogers Avenue, from Dobbs Ferry Road to Shaw Place
- West Hartsdale Avenue at Carlyle Road
- Alexander Avenue at Central Park Avenue
Greenburgh Police units are responding to the above locations as well as Town of Greenburgh Department of Public Works personnel, police said.
About 92,000 people in total remain without power throughout Westchester County, according to Con Edison. Many areas will not be restored until past midnight or are listed as "pending," according to the website's outage map.
"We're restoring people now and we'll continue to do so as long as conditions are safe for us to be out there," Drury said. "With all of the outages, we will do our best to work as quickly as possible to restore power as long as those repairs can be made safely."
