Irvington Sixth-Graders Create Presentations About Books In English Class

IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Irvington Middle School students in Amy Panitz’s English language arts classes love to talk about books. Throughout the school year, the sixth-graders create short presentations for their classmates and discuss a book they’ve read.

Panitz calls those presentations “booktalks,” which are designed to grab the audience’s attention and make them want to read the specific book being discussed.

“Booktalks are a wonderful way for students to demonstrate their understanding of books they’ve recently read while practicing their writing and speaking skills,” said Panitz, who noted that the exercises teach students how to present important information in a concise matter.
