A Letter of Commendation in recognition of outstanding academic promise and scholastic talent was presented to each student by Dobbs Ferry High School Principal John Falino.

"The Dobbs Ferry community is very proud to recognize these seniors as Commended Students in this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program. This designation honors outstanding academic achievement and I would like to congratulate these exceptional young men on their wonderful accomplishment," Falino said in a statement.

More than 1.5 million students entered the competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last fall. Commended Students placed among the top five percent.

Lilling is a three-sport athlete in varsity soccer, basketball and tennis. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society.

Selin is an International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate. He is co-captain in Model UN, and participates in the Green Club, Habitat for Humanity and the Debate Club. He wants to major in either economics or the natural sciences at college.
