DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Dobbs Ferry High School boys basketball team fell to league foe Hastings, 48-40, on Thursday night at Croton-Harmon High School.
The two teams met in the first round of the 32nd annual Robert E. Mayclim Memorial Basketball Tournament. Dobbs Ferry won the tournament in each of the past three seasons.
Dobbs Ferry kept the game close, but Hastings pulled away in the final two minutes to secure the win. The Eagles will play in the consolation game Saturday.
Eagles coach Scott Patrillo said his team would have liked to defend the tournament championship this season.
“You’re always trying to defend any championship you hold onto,” Patrillo said. “But you have to look at as, for us, we’ve got a lot of youth on this team. We’re building. We’re trying to figure out who we are.”
Patrillo added that he has started to see contributions from some of his younger players and he is confident that the Eagles will continue to grow.
Eric Paschall was not in the lineup for Dobbs Ferry on Thursday, and the Eagles clearly missed his presence. But Patrillo said the absence of his best player allowed other Eagles to show what they can do.
Gabe Natale was that player for Dobbs Ferry on Thursday as he hit several big shots, including a three-pointer at the end of the first half that kept Dobbs Ferry within three.
“That’s big to know that we’ve got another guy now going down on that bench,” Patrillo said. “We have guys on this team that can put themselves into double digits in scoring. And once this all starts to happen, where it becomes consistent and everybody’s starting to click on the same nights, you put Eric into the mix and I think you’ve got a good basketball team.”
